On October 10, 2026, Ontario Darfur Women’s Organization (ODWO) brought together families, friends, and community members for our Thanksgiving Community Celebration. It was a beautiful evening filled with laughter, delicious food, cultural connections, and wonderful memories. It was a chance for everyone to come together, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate the importance of community. One of the most special moments of the evening was recognizing individuals and groups who have made a difference in our community. We presented certificates of appreciation to thank those who supported our fundraising efforts for families affected by the war in Sudan, our dedicated volunteers, community members who continuously give back, and Hajjah Hamde’s group, Banat Baladi, for their support and contributions. We are especially thankful to everyone who helped organize the celebration, prepared and shared food, supported the activities, and made our guests feel welcome. Our theme, “One Community, Many Stories, One Heart,” reminds us that even though we all have different stories and experiences, we are stronger when we come together. A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, supporters, families, and everyone who joined us. Your kindness and participation made this event truly special. We look forward to creating more beautiful memories together! A little look at how it all came together! From decorating the space to preparing the food and setting everything up, so much love and effort went into making this celebration special. A big thank you to everyone who helped! ❤️ One of the best parts of the day was seeing everyone come together, sharing smiles, laughter, and beautiful moments. It’s these little memories that make our community feel like family. 🍂 Our founder, Nawal Abdalla, shared a heartfelt message about gratitude, kindness, and the importance of coming together as a community. She reminded us that even though we all have different stories, we are stronger when we support one another. ❤️

Ontario Darfur Women’s Organization (ODWO) was proud to bring our community together for a joyful Canada Day 2026 celebration filled with creativity, connection, food, and family-friendly activities. Children and youth took part in our “Paint Your Future” activity, using art to express their creativity, dreams, and hopes for the future. Families gathered to enjoy food, activities, conversation, and time together while celebrating Canada Day in a welcoming community environment. The celebration was about more than just having fun. It created an opportunity for children, youth, women, families, and community members to connect, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging. We are grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, and helped make the celebration possible. We look forward to continuing to create inclusive spaces where our community can connect, celebrate, and grow together.

Ontario Darfur Women’s Organization (ODWO) brought women and families together at Woodbine Beach for our “Unity in Action” community event — an afternoon centred on connection, support, culture, and togetherness. Community members came together to connect with one another, enjoy the afternoon, and access free clothing generously provided by Home Essential Newcomer Support. The event created a welcoming space where women could meet, build relationships, and support one another while strengthening their sense of community. The afternoon was filled with beautiful moments of cultural celebration, laughter, dancing, and conversation. Women proudly wore colourful traditional clothing, shared stories, took photos together, and celebrated the strength and diversity within our community. More than anything, Unity in Action reflected the importance of women supporting women. By bringing people together and sharing available resources, we continue working toward a community where women and families feel welcomed, connected, and supported. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the day special, and to Home Essential Newcomer Support for their generous contribution. Together, we are building a stronger and more connected community.
