Mental Health Program for Ontario Darfur Women's Organization
Program Objectives
- Promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma in Darfuri communities.
- Provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed mental health support.
- Build emotional resilience and community solidarity.
- Improve access to mental health services and resources.
Target Audience
- Darfuri women and girls in Ontario, including refugees, newcomers, and second-generation immigrants.
- Women affected by trauma, displacement, or post-migration stress.
Community Education & Awareness
- Monthly workshops on mental health literacy, stress management, and trauma recovery.
- Storytelling circles to share lived experiences and foster healing.
- Multilingual materials in Arabic, Fur, and English.
- Partner with Black and African-identified therapists trained in trauma and refugee mental health.
- Offer group therapy and individual sessions (virtual and in-person).
- Integrate faith-based and traditional healing practices where appropriate and adapt programming.
